I’m still lingering on the hangover from Super Bowl Sunday… It was a good game, even though the Seahawks and the Patriots aren’t either of “my teams” (I am one of those lucky Chicago Bears fans… and rightfully cheer for the Broncos, as well). I decided to root for the Seahawks and sport some navy and green for the Super Bowl party. Luckily, my Broncos fans friends were not too salty about the Seahawks’ win over the Broncos last year. I guess it doesn’t really matter, anyways, because the Seahawks lost. On other notes, for my Super Bowl “dish,” I sought to construct an easy Bloody Mary mix with things I had at home. Bloody Marys are one of the best drinks to have at a sports party– while your stuffing your face with food, you can have a drink that accompanies all of those hot wings and jalapeno poppers in a tasty fashion.
I was in quite a rush because I didn’t decide to make Bloodys for my friends until yesterday morning. So– boom– I hit up my kitchen and grabbed everything I had to put in a Bloody. This a recipe for those of you slackers who haven’t gone to the grocery store in a week! I also brought some supplies for a mini Bloody bar. Again, think of this recipe as simple, quick, and stressless. You also (obviously) need a shot or two of vodka or gin in each Bloody– unless you like them virgins.
Ingredients
Mix (makes 5-6 Bloodies)
- 5 cups (40 oz) tomato juice
- ½ lime squeezed
- ½ lemon squeezed
- 2 tbs pickle juice (you can use pepperoncini or olive juice too)
- 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic salt
- 1 tbs Jerk chicken rub (use whatever tasty spices you have in your spice cabinet! this one had brown sugar, nutmeg, chili powder, thyme, cayenne, and cinnamon in it)
- 1 tsp celery seed
- 5 dashes habanero hot sauce
- 2 dashes Louisiana hot sauce
Bloody Mary Bar Garnishes
- stalks of celery
- manzanilla olives
- lime wedges
- pickled carrots, peppers, or cucumbers
- pepperoncinis
Directions
This one is quite easy! Just toss all of the mix ingredients in a large, sealable container and let sit for an hour in the refrigerator. Set up the Bloody Mary bar at your destination and let your friends construct their own! Include some hot sauce at the bar too.
What kind of Bloody Mary did you have on Super Bowl Sunday? I’m always looking for delicious ideas
