Top of the morning to ya, Bloody Mary fans! Straight out of South Carolina is Bloody Point Mixing Co., a company that has created Bloody Mary mixes with the utmost finesse, featuring innovative flavor profiles and an array of mixes for every Bloody Mary drinker. I was grateful to meet Bloody Point founder and owner, Justin Johnson, in Los Angeles this year. Justin shared with me the history of how his company got started, and what truly makes Bloody Point Mixing Co.’s products different from the rest.
Justin founded Bloody Point Mixing Co. in 2018, after bartending for many years and realizing there was not much flavor in the bottled mixes available on the market. Thus, he spent years perfecting his first mix—The Original—by testing out recipes on bar customers and noting what flavors and attributes were the most popular with consumers. What sets Bloody Point Mixing Co.’s Original mix apart is that it was created to be both a drinkable Bloody Mary mix and a marinade for cooking. He made sure to keep this in mind during the creation of this mix. All of Bloody Point Mixing Co.’s mixes are all natural, low sodium, gluten-free, and contain no added MSG or preservatives. I wanted to share some details about Bloody Mary Mixing Point Co.’s three mixes:
The Original is made with water, tomato paste, distilled vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, salt, celery seed, garlic powder, spices, brown sugar, paprika, juice concentrate, and chili pepper. This recipe, as I mentioned before, was created from a combination of hundreds of consumers’ flavor preferences and is complex, yet mild enough for your traditional Bloody Mary drinkers. A touch of cayenne combined with notes of fennel and rosemary creates a smooth balance of flavor.
The Coastal Mary is crafted with water, tomato paste, distilled vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, celery seed, spices, brown sugar, paprika, lemon juice concentrate, salt, chili pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and clam powder. This mix is different, as it is reminiscent of a Bloody Caesar, but is thicker in consistency than your traditional Caesars. The addition of clam powder adds that seaside touch. This mix is perfect for a Bloody made with gin, and pairs well with a seafood meal. Justin mentioned that one of the distinct ingredients in this mix is Japanese Togarashi seasoning, which adds a spicy kick—the spicy kick that you can feel throughout your sinuses, like how you may feel when consuming horseradish. This mix is clearly a nod to the East Coast!
Lastly, The Remedy is Bloody Point Mixing Co.’s newest mix on the market and is essentially the same as The Original, but with the addition of caffeine and B12. Did you ever wake up in the morning and sip coffee alongside your Bloody Mary? Now, you don’t have to! The addition of caffeine and B12 is great for hangovers and jumpstarting your morning, while its fusion with the liquid mix ingredients gives a lighter body feel to the mix. This is definitely one of the most innovative mixes we have seen on the market.
