The tale of family is often told through love, and for some families, through the creation of a delectable Bloody Mary mix. Blood Brothers, LLC, from Tempe, AZ, truly embodies what the word family means through their Blood Shot Bloody Mary Mixes made from a family recipe.
The story of how Blood Shot Bloody Mary Mix came to fruition is heartfelt, yet trying at times. The Blood Brothers are actual brothers, whose father and his wife used to make this mix for BBQs and weekends in the Arizona sunshine. Once their father’s wife passed away, the brothers had the idea to craft an official batch-- labeled and bottled-- for their father. Their goal was to package the mix and share their family recipe with the world. A week prior to the product’s completion, their father passed away. Life was rough afterwards and the brothers went their own ways. One of the brothers, Dax, had an idea to carry out the mix’s production in spirit of their father. Thus, the brothers joined together and Blood Brothers, LLC, was born. Today, Blood Brothers remains a company inspired by family, and even more, by a delicious family Bloody Mary mix recipe.
Blood Brothers is currently looking to expand their reach and needs your help! Spread the Bloody Mary love by supporting their Kickstarter campaign today.
Blood Brothers creates three Blood Shot mixes of varying spice levels: Mild, Medium, and Spicy. All of the mixes are made with the same general ingredients; the heat levels are upped by the addition of more pepper. The main ingredients include a Clamato base, Worcestershire sauce, tomato puree, fresh garlic, white vinegar, sea salt, pepper, Mexican oregano, and a special mix of herbs and spices. The mix is more like an all-purpose marinade and can be used in a variety of ways, from whipping up a fresh Bloody Mary to marinating a juicy steak. Blood Brothers also makes a dippin’ sauce, BBQ sauce, all-purpose marinade, and a red alaea salt/sea salt/ black lava salt mixture to rim your Bloodies or season a meal.
I really enjoyed the Blood Shot mixes and love how the mixes are made with both Clamato and tomato puree. This provides a lighter flavor with a thicker consistency. The mixes are super fresh and taste as if they were made only minutes ago. I am a huge fan of savory mixes that I can also classify as “bountiful,” or mixes that are robust enough to suffice as a meal themselves -- Blood Shot clearly fits this requirement. The addition of Mexican oregano in the mixes, along with the other spices, creates a complex flavor profile with notes reminiscent of the American Southwest.
Blood Brothers sells their mix at Florida farmers’ markets and events, while it’s the chosen mix at many Florida bars and restaurants. For those of you elsewhere in the country, head over to their Kickstarter campaign or http://bloodshotmix.com/ to buy some of their awesome products and support a true American business. This is the mix you need by your side this summer!
