Los Tacos Denver is a Colfax gem featuring some of the best Tex-Mex you can get. Oddly enough, I have driven by Los Tacos a few times and never noticed it. Perhaps this is because the restaurant is only a little over a year old, or because I go *a bit* over the speed limit when driving down Colfax, but nevertheless-- I’m never missing out on Los Tacos again! Los Tacos has an expansive upstairs, with an open-walled style room overlooking Colfax and a full bar. Downstairs, you can keep it casual and sit on luxurious outdoor couches.
The restaurant offers your classics: tacos, burritos, and quesadillas and a huge selection of tequila. A HUGE selection. Premium, infused, classic-- whatever tequila you want, Los Tacos has you covered. They also have some awesome specials going on during the week… Need I say $2 Taco Tuesday or 3-7 happy hour every day?!
THE BLOODY MARIA
Los Tacos’ Bloody Maria had great flavor. I usually opt for vodka, but I couldn’t pass up Los Tacos’ delicious house-infused tequilas. I chose the spicy pickle tequila because I love pickles and heat! Other options included pickle, habanero-pineapple, and serrano. The housemade Bloody mix was delectable-- a bit spicy, a bit salty. The Bloody Mary was fiery hot, likely due to both the spicy pickle tequila and the Bloody mix. The spicy rim added the perfect final touch to this heat monster.
THE MARGS
The bar at Los Tacos serves up a wide variety of margaritas and other fun cocktails. I tried Chef Kelsi’s Spicy Marg, made with house-infused tequila, lime juice, agave, and soda water. It was SO GOOD. I am a huge fan of spicy margs… So much that I don’t really order regular margaritas anymore! I also ordered the same margarita with the habanero-pineapple tequila. The habanero-pineapple was my favorite out of the two, as it was spicier and added subtle pineapple notes to the flavor. Another fun margarita is The St. Margarita. Made with Sauza Blue Silver tequila, John Dekuyper & Sons Elderflower liqueur, fresh lime juice, and mint, The St. Margarita is a refreshing and herbal take on your classic tequila drink.
THE FOOD
We started out with chips and salsa + guac + queso. The perfectly-spiced guac was my favorite, while the queso was a close second. Cheesy quesadillas with a side of salsa were our next move. We then moved onto some BFTs (Big F**kin’ Tacos). I chose the asada, carnitas, and the *secret* protein. The secret protein is just that. A secret. If you guess the protein after taking a bite and are correct, you get a tequila shot. If you get a lot of secret tacos and you know your meats, you’re going to be drunk before your meal’s even over! And guess what?! We guessed the secret meat right! It was chicharron, or pork belly. Served up with white beans, pico, and cheese, the tacos were absolutely delectable and some of my favorites I’ve had recently. The corn tortillas that Los Tacos make are perfectly crisp, not greasy, and don’t break in half like most corn tortillas I’ve experienced in my day. I am returning for $2 taco Tuesday ASAP.
